Maryland: Telugu Girls Lead the Way in Technology

Telugu communities in the United States continue to excel across various sectors, and recently, Telugu girls in Maryland have made headlines with their technological achievements. By applying scientific knowledge and engineering skills, they developed a practical solution to a real world issue. Their efforts paid off when they secured the Qualifier Championship in the First LEGO League Challenge, earning recognition across the state for their exceptional performance in technology.

A team of six Telugu girls took part in the First LEGO League Challenge, a competition designed to promote creativity, technical skill, problem solving ability, and social responsibility among students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Their outstanding work helped them emerge as champions at the qualifier level.

Innovation Through Teamwork and Technology

Students Hrithika, Siona, Pragya, Jasu, Dhruti, and Lasya formed a team named Technotiaras. Over a period of four months, their project evolved through dedication, collaboration, and continuous learning. Beyond building robots, the team focused on developing a socially beneficial solution that could make a meaningful impact.

Safe Removal of Asbestos Using Robotics

The team highlighted the serious health risks asbestos poses to workers involved in renovation and demolition of old structures. To reduce these dangers, they designed a cutting edge robotic system capable of handling asbestos safely. Their Innovation Project was widely praised for its practical application and concern for worker safety.

Awards and Recognition

The Techno Tiaras impressed judges at the McDonough School Qualifier Competition, earning awards and accolades. They secured the top honor, the Qualifier Championship Award, for effectively addressing a social issue. Additionally, their robot design earned second place for performance, demonstrating strong technical capability. Judges were particularly impressed by the teams leadership, coordination, confidence, and enthusiasm.

Support and Next Steps

The success of these students was strongly supported by their coaches, Alok and Abhijeet, whose guidance played a key role in the teams achievements. Families and members of the Knots Maryland Chapter also provided constant encouragement throughout the journey. The girls are now preparing for the upcoming Maryland State Competition.
