Southern California Hit by 5.2-Magnitude Quake: Aftershocks and Impact

US, California: On Tuesday evening, Southern California experienced a 5.2-magnitude earthquake, as reported by the US Geological Survey.

The quake struck about 15 miles southwest of Lamont around 9:10 p.m. PT, and tremors were felt as far away as Fresno.

Initially, the earthquake was recorded at 5.3 on the Richter scale but was later revised to 5.2. Following the main quake, there were numerous aftershocks, with some reaching up to 4.5 in magnitude within a minute of the initial tremor.

The tremors near the epicenter were rated as "very strong" based on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale.

The US Geological Survey is currently evaluating the quake's effects, but they have indicated a low probability of significant damage or casualties.

The Los Angeles Fire Department dispatched personnel to check for any damage or injuries in the city, which is about 88 miles from the epicenter. Currently, there have been no reports of damage or injuries.

Over the next hour, the California Institute of Technology’s seismologist Lucy Jones recorded approximately 60 additional aftershocks.
