What Does the ₹6.45 Crore Ex Gratia Mean for Families of Deceased Indian Gulf Workers?

The Telangana government has approved an ex gratia payment of ₹6.45 crore for the families of workers from the state who passed away while working in Gulf countries. These funds have been distributed among different districts based on the number of reported deaths, with each family set to receive ₹5 lakh.

According to officials, since December 7 of last year, around 160 workers from Telangana have lost their lives in Gulf nations. On October 21, the General Administration Department issued a Government Order (GO) outlining how the funds will be allocated across 15 districts.

The fund allocation includes ₹1.75 crore for Nizamabad district, ₹1.40 crore for Jagitial, ₹60 lakh for Rajanna Sircilla, ₹50 lakh for Nirmal, and ₹20 lakh each for the districts of Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Adilabad, Hanmakonda, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Peddapalli, and Medak. These amounts correspond to the number of deceased Gulf workers in each district.

District collectors have been instructed to ensure the timely distribution of these funds to the eligible families. They have also been advised to submit additional requests for financial aid if needed. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) NRI Cell Chairman, Ambassador B.M. Vinod Kumar, along with TPCC NRI Cell Convener Manda Bhim Reddy, thanked the Revanth Reddy-led government for approving these funds.
