Indian American Ashwin Ramaswamy will create a record by being elected as a Georgia legislator. The first Gen Z (those born between 1997-2012) to run for the Georgia Senate seat in the US is Indian-American Ashwin Ramaswamy. Ashwin, a 24-year-old from an Indian family who immigrated to America from India 34 years ago, is running for the District 48 State Senate in Georgia on behalf of the Democratic Party.


That seat is currently held by Republican Shawn Still. However, Ashwin Ramaswamy said that he is contesting for the Senate with the intention of serving his state, Georgia. He said that everyone who wants to grow politically like him should have better opportunities.

Ashwin Ramaswamy has worked as a software engineer at the age of 24, in various fields including election security and technology. If elected, Ashwin Ramaswamy will create a record as the only Georgia lawmaker with a law degree along with computer science.

Ashwin said that his parents came to America from Tamil Nadu in 1990. He said that he grew up with Indian and American cultures.. He is a Hindu. He revealed that he is very interested in Indian culture.. He also learned Sanskrit during college. Ashwin stated that he practices yoga and meditation daily.
