Suhas Subramanyam: Aiming for the US House with Immigration Reform Focus

Suhas Subramanyam, a Virginia state senator and Democratic candidate for the US House of Representatives from the 10th district, aims to join the ‘Samosa Caucus’ of Indian American lawmakers. Subramanyam, who has experience as a Capitol Hill staffer and White House advisor under President Obama, emphasizes the importance of listening to constituents and addressing their needs.

He highlights immigration reform as a personal issue, advocating for lifting country quotas on green cards and establishing a clearer path to citizenship for H-1B visa holders and seasonal workers. Subramanyam believes a strong US-India relationship, bolstered by economic ties rather than military alliances, is essential.

His campaign focuses on economic issues, healthcare affordability, reproductive rights, and education funding, particularly for underpaid teachers. Subramanyam is proud of his Indian heritage and aims to empower his constituents while encouraging greater political engagement among young Indian Americans and other South Asians. He believes in the importance of representation and wants to inspire others to enter public service, aiming for more diversity in political offices.
