Imran Khan Marks 1 Year in Jail on Aug 5: PTI Protests Intensify

Pakistan, Islamabad: At a press conference held in Islamabad, PTI leader Asad Qaiser stated, "August 5 marks the day PTI founder was arrested and we will protest on that day."

August 5 (Monday) marks one year since former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's imprisonment. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced several nationwide protests on August 5 to commemorate the anniversary of his imprisonment.

According to Geo News, the party will demand Khan's release during the demonstrations.

Qaiser criticized the "indiscriminate crackdown on PTI members, claiming that lawmakers and social media activists were facing a witch-hunt.

This crackdown is happening after the Supreme Court verdict on reserved seats, Qaiser said, urging the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of the situation.

Qaiser called for an end to baseless cases against PTI leaders, highlighting the ongoing arrests of party members.

He accused authorities of forcing 41 MNAs to leave the party and warned that the status of Parliament would be compromised if parliamentarians were treated disrespectfully.

He urged all political parties to join PTI in opposing what he described as a fake and mandateless government.

Party Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan and other key members also spoke at the press event.

Imran Khan Arrested

Imran Khan was arrested on August 5, 2023, in Lahore after a court sentenced him to three years in prison for his involvement in the illegal sale of government gifts.
