Railway Revolution in India: New Shetkari Samruddhi Train, Bullet and Vande Bharat Expansions

The Ministry of Railways has launched the "Shetkari Samruddhi" train, connecting Maharashtra's Devlali to Bihar's Danapur, to enhance agricultural transport and benefit farmers. This initiative, flagged off by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, addresses the crucial need for efficient transport of perishable goods like mangoes and onions, which are key exports for Maharashtra’s farmers. The project aligns with earlier initiatives like the "Kisan Rail" and reflects the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector.

Railway investments in Maharashtra have surged, with budget allocations rising from Rs 1,171 crores in 2014 to Rs 15,940 crores in 2024-25. The state has seen significant infrastructure developments, including the construction of 1,830 km of new tracks, the electrification of 3,513 km, and ongoing projects like the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor. The introduction of Vande Bharat trains has further improved connectivity, aligning with the "Make in India" initiative.

Infrastructure improvements extend to station redevelopment, with Rs 6,400 crores allocated to modernize 132 stations across the state. The expansion of Mumbai’s local train network and the nearing completion of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor demonstrate the government's focus on both passenger and freight services. Special trains for festivals like Ganpati further highlight the railways’ responsiveness to public needs.

These investments are driving economic growth, improving connectivity, and enhancing the quality of life for the people of Maharashtra, showcasing the impact of the "double-engine" government’s infrastructure focus.
