Three Indian American Scholars Named 2025 Marshall Scholarship Recipients

London, UK: The Marshall Scholarship provides U.S. students a unique opportunity to advance academically and develop leadership skills in the U.K.

The British Government has announced 36 recipients of the 2025 Marshall Scholarship, a highly prestigious award recognizing academic excellence, leadership potential, and ambassadorial qualities.

This year’s winners include Indian Americans Tej Patel and Sridatta Teerdhala from the University of Pennsylvania, and Pratyush Seshadri from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill.

Tej Patel, hailing from Billerica, Massachusetts, is a student of molecular biology and healthcare management. He plans to pursue an MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology and an MSc in Applied Digital Health at the University of Oxford. A 2024 Truman Scholar, Patel has published research on health economics and co-founded the Social Equity Action Lab.

Sridatta Teerdhala, from Richardson, Texas, is majoring in biology and economics with a focus on healthcare innovation. His academic plans include an MPhil in Medical Sciences at the University of Cambridge, followed by a master’s in Health Policy at the London School of Economics. Teerdhala is actively involved in cancer immunotherapy research and homeless healthcare initiatives.

Pratyush Seshadri, a Morehead-Cain scholar at UNC-Chapel Hill, is pursuing a dual major in economics and mathematics. He aims to undertake an MPhil in Economics at the University of Oxford, with a focus on strategies for mitigating climate change. Seshadri is the co-founder of Visibility Forward, an organization advocating for the inclusion of Asian American history in curricula, and has contributed to macroeconomic research in Johannesburg and New York.

The Marshall Scholarship, established in 1953 to honor the U.S. for the Marshall Plan, funds postgraduate studies in the U.K., promoting cultural and educational ties between the two nations. This year’s scholars were selected from 983 applicants representing 26 institutions across the United States.
