Assembly Elections Phase Three: Jammu and Kashmir Votes Today

USA, Tallahassee: The third and final phase of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir began today (October 1), with an 11.60% voter turnout reported in the first two hours of voting. Polling started at 7 AM across 5,060 polling stations located in 40 Assembly segments across seven districts of the Union Territory. The elections are being held under stringent security measures to ensure a safe and fair voting experience.

The districts involved in this phase include Jammu, Kathua, Samba, and Udhampur in the Jammu region, along with Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipora in the Kashmir Valley. This comprehensive coverage aims to reflect the voices of the entire region in the democratic process.

To uphold the Election Commission's commitment to transparency and accessibility, all polling stations have been equipped with webcasting facilities. Each location also features Assured Minimum Facilities, which include drinking water, electricity, toilets, ramps, furniture, and sheds or verandas. Special provisions have been made for voters with mobility challenges, including the availability of wheelchairs.

This final phase follows the successful completion of the first two phases, which took place on September 18 and September 25, respectively. The vote counting is scheduled for October 8.
