Under the new policy, the US plans to deport these individuals for lacking proper documentation, marking a historic step towards fulfilling Trump's election promise. This deportation is expected to be enforced immediately after Trump's inauguration.
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has compiled a list of 1.5 million individuals residing in the country illegally, with 17,940 Indians included.
According to the Pew Research Center, approximately 725,000 Indians in the US are living without legal status.
