Fatima Sana Leads Pakistan to Dominant Win Over Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup

Captain Fatima Sana led Pakistan to a dominant 31-run victory over Sri Lanka in their opening match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. At just 22, Fatima showcased her leadership and all-around skills, contributing with both bat and ball. Despite demoting herself to No. 7 in the batting order, she played a vital knock of 30 off 20 balls, helping Pakistan reach 116 runs after early wickets left them struggling. Her decisive bowling performance, which included the crucial dismissal of Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu for six, set the tone for Pakistan’s defense.

Pakistan's bowlers, led by spinners Omaima Sohail and Nashra Sandhu, stifled Sri Lanka's chase, reducing them to 84 for nine in 20 overs. Omaima and Nashra took key wickets, while Sadia Iqbal's three-wicket haul applied further pressure. Fatima's 2/10, including a final-over wicket, capped off her match-winning performance. Pakistan now leads Pool A, with strong contenders like Australia, India, and New Zealand awaiting. Despite the loss of experienced pacer Diana Baig to injury, Pakistan’s bowlers, particularly their captain, rose to the challenge.
