New Jersey, USA: New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has appointed Kris Kolluri as the new president and CEO of NJ TRANSIT, succeeding Kevin Corbett, who has stepped down.

Kolluri’s tenure will focus on modernizing the agency and enhancing its infrastructure.

Although Corbett will step down, he will remain in his role until January 15, 2025. Kolluri’s selection received unanimous approval during the NJ TRANSIT board of directors meeting held on December 11.

Governor Murphy expressed strong confidence in Kolluri’s capabilities, stating, “Kris Kolluri has played a key role in improving transit infrastructure in our region. I am confident he will lead NJ TRANSIT in providing New Jersey residents with a modern, efficient, and dependable transportation system.”

Murphy also highlighted Kolluri’s significant contributions as CEO of the Gateway Development Commission. During his tenure, Kolluri was instrumental in the $16.1 billion Hudson Tunnel Project, which secured record-breaking federal funding for a mass transit initiative and marked the first construction of heavy rail tunnels under the Hudson River in more than a century.

“Kris demonstrated exceptional leadership at the Gateway Development Commission, achieving critical milestones for the Hudson Tunnel Project,” Murphy remarked.I appreciate his continued commitment to New Jersey and am excited about our future collaboration.

Kolluri, a seasoned transportation and infrastructure expert, brings decades of experience to this new role. In response to the appointment, he shared, “I am deeply honored by Governor Murphy’s trust in me to lead NJ TRANSIT. Thanks to his leadership and investments, NJ TRANSIT remains a top priority. I am eager to work alongside him and the board to meet the expectations of our customers and deliver the upgrades they deserve.”

Kolluri’s extensive professional background includes serving as CEO of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority and as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Additionally, he has held leadership roles with NJ TRANSIT, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, and the South Jersey Transportation Authority.

Fran O’Connor, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation and chair of the NJ TRANSIT board praised Kolluri’s expertise and acknowledged Kevin Corbett’s contributions to the organization.

Kolluri is a graduate of Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science degree and holds a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University.
