India Appeals to Bangladesh for the Protection of Hindus Following Arrest and Riots

The arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das on November 25 in Bangladesh has sparked riots and targeted attacks against Hindus and other minority communities in the country.

On November 26, the Indian government issued a statement expressing deep concern over Das's arrest and the subsequent denial of bail. Das, a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote, was detained amidst escalating tensions marked by violence against minority groups.

The statement cited documented instances of arson, looting, vandalism, and desecration of temples and deities, primarily targeting minority communities. Indian authorities condemned the lack of accountability for these acts and questioned the legal proceedings against Das, whom they described as advocating legitimate demands through peaceful means.

India also raised concerns about reports of violence against minorities who were peacefully protesting Das's arrest. The Indian government called on Bangladesh to ensure the safety and security of its Hindu and minority populations while emphasizing their rights to peaceful assembly and free expression.

This incident has prompted demands from various minority rights organizations for stronger protections for vulnerable communities in Bangladesh.
