The Indian government has unveiled a scholarship program designed to assist the children of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) who are pursuing undergraduate courses in Indian universities and educational institutes.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the launch of the Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) for the academic year 2024-25. The initiative aims to offer financial support to diaspora students, covering expenses such as tuition fees, admission fees, and post-admission charges, providing considerable financial aid to eligible applicants.

Initially introduced in the 2006-2007 academic year, the program has evolved over time, expanding to include students from all countries. The scholarship also features a 50% reservation of seats for female candidates and now includes medical students pursuing undergraduate studies as part of the scheme.

The MEA has encouraged eligible candidates to apply as soon as possible, particularly those enrolling in undergraduate programs for the 2024-25 academic year. The deadline for submitting completed applications has been extended until December 25, 2024. Detailed guidelines and the application form can be found on the respective Consulate's website.
