Telangana Student Tragically Killed During Chicago Store Robbery

Chicago, USA: A 22-year-old student from Telangana's Khammam district, Sai Teja Nukarapu, was fatally shot by two armed individuals at a store in Chicago, USA, on Friday night. Sai Teja, who worked as a part-time cashier at the store, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The assailants entered the store, demanded cash from Sai Teja, and shot him despite his compliance. His family in India was informed of the incident early Saturday morning around 5:30 am (IST).

Sai Teja had completed his BBA in Hyderabad before traveling to the US on June 15 to pursue an MBA at Concordia University in Chicago. On the night of the tragedy, he had completed his shift but stayed back to assist a co-worker who needed to leave early. Minutes later, he was shot by the robbers.

Friends of Sai Teja in the US informed his family in Khammam that he offered no resistance but was still shot. "He handed over the cash without resistance but was still killed. Such criminals deserve the harshest punishment," his uncle stated, adding that the family is devastated by this senseless loss.

Sai Teja's parents, Koteshwar Rao Nukarapu and Vani, live in Raparthinagar, Khammam, while his elder sister resides in the US. Neighbors and local leaders, including Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Khammam MP R Raghuram Reddy, are coordinating with the external affairs ministry to expedite the process of repatriating his body. The Telugu Association of North America (TANA) is also assisting, but relatives estimate it may take a week due to post-mortem and formalities.
