Vernon Receives $25,000 Grant for Emergency Operations Center Upgrade

Vernon has been granted $25,000 to enhance its emergency operations center, a critical hub for responding to large-scale incidents and weather events in the region.

The competitive grant, awarded by the state's Division of Homeland Security, has generated excitement among town leaders.

"This funding will allow us to significantly improve our operations center," said Michael Purcaro, town administrator. "Our primary responsibility in government is ensuring public safety and protecting our residents. This grant will enable us to fulfil that mission even more effectively."

The upgrades will focus on two key areas, Purcaro explained.

"We plan to enhance our technological capabilities, particularly in medical response through advanced virtual reality training simulations," Purcaro stated. "Additionally, we aim to elevate our drone aviation unit, enhancing video feed capabilities for both fire and police operations, thereby enhancing our situational awareness during emergencies."

In addition to technology upgrades, the grant will fund improvements to phone systems, computers, and furnishings such as tables and chairs, ensuring a more comfortable environment for first responders working extended shifts.
