New York, USA: Indian celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan and the Ambani family are among the patrons of this renowned restaurant.
In a remarkable achievement, Indian chef Vikas Khanna’s New York restaurant, Bungalow, has been awarded the prestigious Michelin 2024 Bib Gourmand Award.
Opened in March 2024, Khanna dedicated the restaurant to the memory of his late sister, Radhika, who passed away on February 28, 2022, from lupus, an autoimmune disease, and related complications.
Radhika, a fashion designer, was the owner of the women’s daily wear brand, Estilo Inc.
In a March post on his social media, Khanna described the restaurant as a "cultural bridge between India and the US," made possible by the support of his loyal patrons.
The Michelin 2024 Bib Gourmand Award celebrates Bungalow’s commitment to delivering exceptional cuisine at an accessible price point. According to the Michelin website: “Chef Vikas Khanna has created a vibrant and inviting dining space with pale pink walls, colorful murals, and a bar featuring intricately carved panels. It's a lively spot, and securing a reservation can be challenging, with diners eagerly queuing up to secure a walk-in seat.”
“The experience begins with unique cocktails, such as turmeric-infused tequila and chili-infused mezcal, followed by contemporary Indian dishes that reflect the culinary diversity of India’s 28 states. Notable dishes include the five cheese kulcha (stuffed flatbread) and yogurt kebabs wrapped in crispy kataifi pastry, paired with pickled cabbage puree and spicy mango coulis.”
Khanna expressed his gratitude on social media for receiving this honor.
"After 260 days at Bungalow, we have been honored with the Michelin 2024 Bib Gourmand Award," he said. "Although I’ve earned the Michelin Star eight times, today felt different. It felt like it had a greater meaning, a tribute, and a commitment to my land, my people, and to my sister."
He added, “This is just the beginning. We will continue to work tirelessly to provide our guests with an experience that reflects the true spirit of Indian hospitality.”
